The Village’s Sustainability Plan, approved in 2013, is being updated with grant-funded support from AmeriCorps, Serve Illinois, Metropolitan Mayors Caucus, and Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.
The Village’s dedication to sustainability is demonstrated by practical efforts, including an energy-reduction project in 2017 that upgraded lighting at Sears Centre Arena to efficient LED fixtures.
The Illinois Sustainability Awards, presented by the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center (ISTC), recognized Hoffman Estates and 26 other organizations for their sustainable practices. The Village had previously won the award in 2011 and received an honorable mention in 2014.
The winners are chosen through a rigorous review process by ISTC technical assistance experts.
